North Salem High School Design Project
We partnered with North Salem High School's Introduction to Horticulure class on a fun design project. Pre-Covid-19 plans had students spending a day at Gaiety Hollow working together on their designs. However, we soon had to rework this project into an online format.
First, we asked students to watch a video about landscape architects Elizabeth Lord & Edith Schryver to see how they influenced garden design in the Pacific Northwest. Next, students were asked to design their dream house and garden on a lot incorporating several L&S design principles. Students were to provide both a plan (from above) and landscape (from the side) view with plants and hardscape elements. We were unsure of student resources at home so were flexible with the type of paper and coloring materials used. We offered a small cash prize to the winner. First Prize: Alina Gutierrez
