Karen Freeman, Volunteer Coordinator

Soon after we moved to Salem, I started volunteering with the Lord and Schryver Conservancy as a gardener at Deepwood Museum and Gardens (we work in the L&S-designed formal garden areas). It was a great way to learn about gardening in the Pacific Northwest and to meet new friends. Since then I became a docent (giving garden tours at both Deepwood and Gaiety Hollow), started working in the archives, and am now the Volunteer Coordinator.
Born and raised in California, I received degrees from the University of California in Berkeley and also San Diego State University. I worked as a speech and language pathologist in the public schools and later became an early childhood teacher and director. I enjoy gardening, quilting, and running.
